10 Foods That Promote Weight Loss

10 Foods That Promote Weight Loss:
Foods that promote weight loss might seem too good to be true—after all, doesn't nearly everything have calories? But some foods really can help you along your weight loss journey when you choose them over other options.
Here are 10 to add to your diet in moderation.
1. Apples
Research has shown that eating a fiber-filled apple before a meal can fill you up so you eat fewer calories. They're also great at balancing blood sugar, which can help you make better snacking decisions because you won't be desperate to get something in your belly quickly.

2. Brown rice
Much better for you than its white counterpart, brown rice has resistant starch, which is a healthy carb that helps boost metabolism and burn fat. It's also very filling without tons of calories.
3. Eggs
Eat the whole thing, not just the whites. An egg's filling protein stimulates a fat-burning hormone that helps stave off belly fat.
4. Salmon
Salmon's lean protein and rich taste keep you feeling satisfied without unhealthy fats. It also has a ton of omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for your heart.
5. Oats
A bowl of oatmeal for breakfast has enough fiber to fight off snack cravings until lunchtime. Steel-cut and rolled oats are more filling than instant oats.
6. Chia seeds
These fiber-rich, omega-3-filled seeds absorb up to 20 times their weight in water, acting like little sponges that soak up sugar and balance blood sugar levels, making snack time less of a priority.
7. Red wine
The antioxidant found in red wine known as resveratrol helps prevent fat storage and boosts the amount of calories you burn for about 90 minutes after drinking it. Studies have also shown that moderate wine drinkers tend to have narrower waists and less belly fat than those who drink liquor.
8. Turkey
Turkey contains tryptophan, an amino acid that converts to serotonin in the brain. This feel-good chemical boosts your mood and quells your appetite, helping you forget cravings.
9. Mushrooms
Research has shown that people who ate mushroom-based entrees were just as satisfied as they were when they ate the same dishes made with beef, but they got ate fewer calories and less saturated fat.

Sex After 50: More Than Ever?

Sex After 50: More Than Ever?
Ninety-three-year-old actress Betty White loves to talk about sex: "I may be a senior, but so what? I'm still hot."
Most likely she'd applaud the recent research published in the archives of sexual behaviour that busts the stereotype of the sexless older adult.

While most of us know that the frequency of sex is greatest during those first throes of passion, and we grudgingly accept the fact that it often wanes as the years of wedded bliss march on, this study into the sexual behavior of long-married couples uncovered something quite unexpected. Couples who were married for longer than 50 years actually reported a slight uptick in their sex lives. In fact, the frequency of their sex lives continued to increase even after the 50-year mark.
Researchers noted, "An individual married for 50 years will have somewhat less sex than an individual married for 65 years."
That's right—they said "less."
The study examined trends in the frequency of sex of older adults.
Researchers analyzed information about aspects of well-being from over 1,600 couples aged 57 to 85 who had been married varying amounts of time, based on data from the 2005-2006 National Social Life, Health and Aging Project.
If you've ever wondered (and who hasn't?) how often other people are "doing it," here's how the numbers played out: The average older adult who had been married for a year had a 65 percent chance of having sex two to three times a month (or more); after 25 years of marriage, that frequency was likely to drop to 40 percent. After being married for 50 years, it dropped further to 35 percent.
But—and here's the real surprise—when couples remained together after 65 years, the chance of having sex with that frequency actually improved, and increased to 42 percent.
Samuel Stroope, the study's lead author and an assistant professor of sociology at Louisiana State University, said that sexual frequency doesn't return to two to three times a month, but moves in that direction as the years march on.
The abstract from the study, available online, also said that people in first marriages had more frequent sex than those who remarried. The researchers, sociologists at Louisiana State University, Florida State University and Baylor University, speculated that the permanency of relationships were responsible for the increased sexual activity in first marriages.
While this study's findings are contrary to popular opinion or beliefs, they should not be taken without some caveats. Information published in the new york times revealed that the study did not include partners who lived together but were not married, nor did it include gay or lesbian couples. And, interviewers told interviewees that the "sex" or "sexual activity" did not necessarily mean intercourse or orgasm but rather "any mutually voluntary activity with another person that involves sexual contact."
So, does being married cause you to have more sex, or does having more sex cause you to stay married longer?
No one truly knows.

Taking Care of Your Newborn

Taking Care of Your Newborn:
Taking care of a newborn is both the simplest and most difficult thing you have probably ever done in your life. Here is this little bundle of humanity whose only method of communicating is crying and screaming. He is entirely dependent on you and your partner for everything. The sense of responsibility, particularly after years of being responsible only for yourself, can be overwhelming. So here's your first bit of advice: Breathe. And the second: Relax. Your baby knows when you're uptight and anxious. You transfer that anxiety  to him and then he can't relax!

http://hospitalsinhyderabad.in/

First, know that your baby will sleep much of the time. Newborns generally sleep up to 20 hours a day the first few weeks. Unfortunately, it may not be in large chunks! That's because they also need to eat quite often. Their tummies are tiny and their nutritional needs enormous. If it feels like you spend every hour of every day with your breast or a bottle in your baby's mouth, that's not unusual.
The most common reason for Baby's crying is hunger. Not hungry? Check the diaper. If that's not the problem, try swaddling her—wrapping her tightly in a receiving blanket. Newborns are used to the tight confines of the womb; being out in the world and having their arms and legs flapping around can be scary. Holding her and walking around, "wearing" her in a sling or front pack, or, if all else fails, putting her in the car seat for a drive are other time- and parent-tested options to soothe a crying child.
After feeding and crying, the other new thing you have to get used to is washing your baby. Until Baby's umbilical cord stump falls off, just use a warm washcloth to wipe around her face, bottom and hands. When it's time for her first bath, fill the basin or sink with about an inch or two of warm water with a couple of squirts of baby wash. Make sure you have everything you need at hand before you undress the baby. That includes baby wash, shampoo, washcloth and towel. Holding Baby against one arm, slowly lower her into the water and, using the other arm and hand, wet the washcloth and begin gently washing her. Don't let go and don't ever leave any young child unattended around water. You can use the washcloth to wash her hair, too. It's best if you have two people doing this—one to hold her and one to wash her—but you can do it on your own.
When you're finished, lift her out of the tub and lay her on the towel. Wrap her securely in the towel and take her off to be diapered and dressed. There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

Amrita Rao's Summer Beauty Tips For Tanned Skin and Scruffy Hair

Amrita Rao's Summer Beauty Tips For Tanned Skin and Scruffy Hair:
Even though summer comes every year, it's hard not to complain about it. What with its innumerable consequences of sweat grime and the constant skin issues. Staying fresh and beautiful seems like the hardest thing, how do these celebrities look like the sun never touched them? The beautiful Amrita Rao reveals her summer mantras just for you.

Scruffy hair:
The most common complaint of summer time weather is the dull and lifeless hair it gives us. Though keeping your scalp clean is the way to go, if greasy hair is your problem, then maybe some baby powder to do the trick or like Amrita Rao says, "Carry a trendy hairband or a bandana with which you can quickly tie your hair".
Tanned skin and blemishes:
Summertime leads to that god awful tan, something that refuses to go away, no wonder then the trick is to keep either the sun away or to simply use protection against it. A good sunscreen with high SPF is just the trick but understand not all sunscreens may be good for you, Amrita advices "Understand what skin type you are and then use good products that suit your skin." So if you have an oily skin, go for more matte creams. Though prevention is always better, if you can afford to avoid the sun, it's the perfect solution and Amrita's way to go in summers as she says, " I chill in summers by spending time indoors, I avoid walking in the sun even if it's shopping, I would go to a malls, even if it is outside the country."
Scorched and Parched:
It's important to stay hydrated. All that sweating can make your water levels fall drastically leading to dull skin, parched throat and rising body temperature. It's important to maintain your cool and your favourite drink should be the good ole H2O as Amrita reveals, "Have lots of water and wear appropriate clothes that protects you from the sun. My favourite thing to eat in the summer would be a lot of cucumber slices, lime juice or coconut water would be good." That should keep you fresh and cool, and if all this seems hard work maybe a good escape up north might be a good idea. So get your travel itineraries in order.

Signs and Symptoms of Acute Asthma Attack

Signs and Symptoms of Acute Asthma Attack:
Are you finding it difficult to breathe at night and still wondering whether you have developed asthma symptoms or not? Asthma is of two types: intrinsic asthma (that happens during childhood) and extrinsic asthma (that triggers all of a sudden in your adulthood due to external factors). Here is how you can recognise each of them:

Wheezing:
Asthma patients start wheezing heavily before breathlessness overtakes them. Wheezing, generally, constitutes a whooshing sound coming out from the mouth of the person, who is likely to get an attack within the next couple of minutes. Wheezing should alert you right away as it is the primary indication of an asthma attack. Some people also complain of an itchy nose or eczema around the nasal area, which happens when you are exposed to highly allergic pollen or dust.
Most people feel anxious and sweaty just before an asthma attack. Sweaty forehead, neck, back and palms along with restlessness in the chest are signs that you must look out for.
Formation of phlegm despite of you not having cold or viral is also a sign and symptom of an acute asthma attack. Asthma attacks usually happen when the chest congestion restricts the airway from a smooth breathing pattern leading to shorter and quicker breaths. Most often, symptoms such as cough and wheezing are more prominent at night. This is also called Nocturnal Asthma.
During an asthma attack, the respiratory system undergoes an internal inflammation leading to the narrowing of the airway passage. During this time, another recognisable sign of an asthma attack is the formation of mucous in the mouth. It is usually thick and the cause of a dry throat.Chest pain and dropping of pressure is another symptom along with tightening of chest and neck muscles. These are called retractions. You will feel a difficulty in talking as every time you try to open your mouth, you will want to take a breath of air to release the discomfort that is being suppressed inside you.Look out for your finger nails! If they are blue, your blood vessels are not getting the sufficient amount of oxygen supply. This suggests the need for an urgent medical attention.Your lips will feel dry and turn blue. Shaking hands and getting cold feet are other symptoms of asthma that you must watch out for.Prevent an asthma emergency in the middle of the night or while you are walking on the road. The sooner you recognise the symptoms and signs of asthma, the sooner your medication will be effective in healing. Keep your doctor’s number handy and start working on your asthma action plan!
